Dave Davis works as a supervisor for Comcast, overseeing 13 technicians. He also has three grown daughters, one of whom also works for Comcast, and one granddaughter. It’s a busy life, but when he heard about the company’s partnership with Southern New Hampshire University, he decided it was finally time to finish the degree he started so long ago.

Davis said he began college years ago but didn’t finish his degree because of the cost and hadn’t been able to return to school since. Comcast’s partnership with SNHU allows Davis to leverage knowledge he already has through the College for America program, a flexible competency-based curriculum.

Davis said he’s already earned his associate degree and after a short break started working toward a bachelor’s degree. “When I tried to get back into it, it was hard. I had to buckle down and make myself get going again,” Davis said. “Now I’m back in the groove. I learned that I’ve got to keep going and put in some time every week to keep the motivation up.”

His effort is already paying off. For one thing, he’s now able to apply for promotions within Comcast that require a degree. He’s also noticed a big difference in his presentation skills. “Many of the projects require PowerPoint or Excel presentations. I was a VERY basic user before,” he said. “I’ve become way better at using those now.”

Davis said he’s become such a fan of the College for America program he’s become an advocate for it at Comcast. He’s spoken to other employees at company meetings about the program and how it works, even traveling in his local area to make presentations about the partnership and answer colleagues’ questions.

“When I learned about CFA, I know I had found the program for me,” Davis said. “It’s been an awesome experience.”
